Microsoft Project Professional 2024: perpetual project management for one PC

What Project Professional includes
Microsoft sells perpetual Project in two editions. Project Standard is the individual planner's edition: Gantt charts, task scheduling, resource assignment, baselines, critical path and built-in reports. Project Professional includes all of that and adds the features that matter once more than one person or more than one project is involved. We sell the Professional edition only, because it covers everything Standard does and adds the pieces that most people searching for MS Project 2024 eventually need.

Project Server and Project Online are separate server or cloud products licensed by Microsoft. A Project Professional desktop license lets the client connect to them; it does not include them. Feature differences between the three are modest. Project 2021 and 2024 refreshed the interface to match current Office, improved accessibility and dark mode support, and updated the reporting templates. Microsoft Project 2024 Professional tracks the Office 2024 codebase, so it pairs cleanly with Office 2024 on the same computer. If you are buying for a Windows 11 machine and do not need to match an older team, choose 2024. If your organization runs Office 2021 and wants every desktop on one generation, choose 2021. Project 2019 is the right pick only when you are adding a seat to an existing 2019 deployment.
Which edition should I choose?

Is Microsoft Project Professional 2024 a one-time purchase?
Yes. Project Professional 2024 is a perpetual LTSC license. You pay once, install on one Windows PC, and use it for as long as you like with no renewal. Microsoft supports it until October 9, 2029. This is separate from the Project Plan 1, 3 and 5 subscriptions that Microsoft sells with Microsoft 365, which are billed monthly and stop when payment stops. If you want a Microsoft Project 2024 license you own outright, the perpetual Professional edition in this category is the right product.
Should I buy Project Standard 2024 or Project Professional 2024?
Project Professional includes everything in Microsoft Project Standard 2024 and adds Team Planner, resource pools, inactive tasks for scenario planning, and the ability to connect to Project Server or Project Online. We stock Professional only. If you manage one project at a time on your own, Professional still works perfectly well and you simply have features in reserve. If you juggle several plans, share resources across them, or your organization runs Project Server, Professional is the edition you need in any case.
Will Project 2024 open plans made in Project 2019 or 2016?
Yes. Project 2024 opens .mpp files saved by Project 2016, 2019 and 2021 without conversion, and it can save back to those formats when you need to share with someone on an older version. Features introduced later, such as newer report designs, may not appear when the file is opened in an older release, but tasks, dependencies, resources and baselines carry across. Files created in Project 2010 or 2013 also open, though Microsoft recommends saving them in the current format once you have moved.
Does Project run on Mac?
No. The perpetual Project desktop application is Windows only, and every key in this category is for one Windows PC. Microsoft does not publish a Mac edition of Project Professional 2024, 2021 or 2019. Mac users typically run Project inside a Windows virtual machine, or use Microsoft's browser-based Project for the web through a Microsoft 365 subscription, which is a different product and not something we sell. If a native macOS application is essential, Project is not the right choice.
Can I move Project Professional to a new computer?
If the product page states a retail license, yes. Uninstall Project from the old PC, install it on the new one from the same Microsoft download link, and enter your key again. If activation reports the key as already in use, contact support@softwareinstore.com and we will guide you through phone activation or reset it for you. Volume (MAK) keys have a limited activation count and belong within one organization. Your key stays available under My Account, so a lost email is never a problem.
