Office 2010 stands out for one thing: it is the only suite here that installs on Windows XP and Windows Vista. Everything else about it argues for a newer version if your hardware allows one. System requirements
Office 2010 needs very little: a 500 MHz processor, 256 MB of RAM (512 MB recommended for some features), 3 GB of free disk space and a 1024 by 576 display. Microsoft's supported operating systems were Windows XP with Service Pack 3 for the 32-bit edition, Windows Vista with Service Pack 1, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Windows 11 is not a supported platform for Office 2010. The suite is also no longer supported for connecting to Microsoft 365 services, so Outlook 2010 should be used with IMAP, POP or an on-premises Exchange server rather than a Microsoft 365 mailbox.

Does Office 2010 work on Windows 10 or Windows 11?
Office 2010 with Service Pack 2 was supported by Microsoft on Windows 10 while the suite was still under support, and it generally installs and runs there. Windows 11 was never a supported platform for Office 2010; the installer may run, but Microsoft did not test or certify the combination and we cannot guarantee correct behavior. If your PCs run Windows 11, Office 2021 or Office 2024 Professional Plus is the right purchase, and both are fully supported on that operating system.

Can newer Office files be opened in Office 2010?
Yes, with limits. Office 2010 reads and writes .docx, .xlsx and .pptx natively, so a document saved by Office 2024 or Microsoft 365 will open. Features introduced after 2010, such as newer Excel functions, chart types and some formatting effects, will not be available and may appear as static values or be simplified. For the smoothest exchange, ask colleagues on newer versions to avoid the newest features in shared files, or export to PDF when layout matters more than editability.
