Windows 10 Pro versus the other Windows 10 editions

For most small businesses and enthusiasts, Windows 10 Pro is the sweet spot. Pro N is the same edition with media components removed and suits a few specific environments. Pro for Workstations only pays off on machines with more than two processors, more than 2 TB of RAM or a need for ReFS and persistent memory.

• Processor: 1 GHz or faster, or a system on a chip; two physical processors supported
• Memory: 1 GB (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit) minimum; 8 GB recommended for business use and 16 GB for Hyper-V
• Storage: 32 GB or larger; an SSD makes a large difference
• Graphics: DirectX 9 or later with a WDDM 1.0 driver
• Display: 800 x 600 or higher
• Hyper-V additionally needs a 64-bit processor with second-level address translation (SLAT) and virtualization enabled in firmware
• BitLocker works best with a TPM 1.2 or 2.0, but can also be configured with a USB startup key or password on PCs without one
• Internet connection for activation and updates; local accounts are fully supported on Pro

Because Windows 10 Pro has no TPM, Secure Boot or processor generation requirement, it runs on business hardware going back well over a decade, which is often the reason a buyer needs this key rather than a Windows 11 one.
